TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google finally releases its next generation of the Android operating system. Called Android 8.0 Oreo, the version is released today, August 22.
This is the second time in Android history that a commercial brand is used as a name. After the 4.4 KitKat involving Nestle, the search engine giant now works with Mondelez to use Oreo.
The Android 8.0 Oreo code will be uploaded by Google engineers to the Android Open Source Project. Meanwhile, Nexus and Pixel are expected to see an update soon, with the beta program participants receiving it first.
Google said that by year-end users are expected to have a taste of the Android Oreo using devices from Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp, and Sony.
The latest Android version comes with picture-in-picture, notification dots, redesigned emojis and 60 new ones, built-in Google Play Protect, feature to prevent apps from draining the phone's battery in the background, faster boot time, Autofill, and support for Android Instant Apps, GSM Arena reported.
