TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat is optimistic that the traffic congestion problem in the capital city will be solved in merely three years.
Djarot says that by 2020, Jakarta will no longer need to implement the motorcycle ban and the bus lanes that are currently used for Transjakarta buses will no longer be needed. He predicts the Jakartans will already have shifted to use public transportation by 2020.
“We predict that by 2020, there will be no more restrictions like what we have now. There will not be bus lanes anymore, we’ll open those lanes,” said Djarot today, August 22.
He is optimistic that there will be no more traffic congestion in Jakarta since the constructions of several infrastructures and public transportations will be finished and operable by then. People will also prefer to commute by using public transportation such as light rail transit (LRT) and mass rapid transit (MRT).
As for the personal vehicle users, the Jakarta administration plans to implement the electronic road pricing (ERP) system at several major city roads.
