TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named two suspects in a case surrounding the bribery of an acting clerk of the South Jakarta District Court. The two suspects are PT ADI attorney Akhmad Zaini and South Jakarta District Court acting clerk Tarmizi. Both suspects were arrested during a sting operation launched yesterday, August 21.
In addition to the two suspects, the KPK detained three other individuals, namely South Jakarta District Court honorary employee, another PT ADI attorney Fajar Gora, and Solihan, a driver of a car rented by Akhmad. The KPK said that the total amount of money involved in this bribery case was Rp425 million.
The case is allegedly linked to a ruling for a dispute between PT Aquamarine Divido Inspection (PT ADI) and Eastern Jason Fabrication Service Pte., Ltd (EFJS, Pte., Ltd.).
Akhamad allegedly transferred the money so that the court would reject the lawsuit filed by EJFS against PT ADI and that the court would accept PT ADI’s counterclaim. EJFS filed the lawsuit with the Jakarta District Court on October 4, 2016, alleging that PT ADI failed to fulfill its obligation on time. Therefore, EJFS demanded PT ADI to pay compensations amounting to US$7.6 million and SG$131,000.
