Jokowi Speaks About Absolute Power during Plenary Meeting

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi addressed the allegation of absolute power in his speech during the 2017 People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Plenary Session today. President Jokowi reminded that there is no state agency with absolute power in Indonesia.
“There is no state agency with an absolute power or any that supersedes the authority of other state agencies,” President Jokowi said.

Jokowi was recently accused of being authoritarian by several politicians for issuing certain policies. One of them was the Government Regulation In lieu of Law regarding mass-organizations, which is considered by some as an attempt to restrict the freedom of a certain mass-organization.
President Jokowi addressed the topic of discussion several times by repeatedly saying that the current government has no intention of becoming an authoritarian regime. He maintains that the policies made by the government are always for the sake of the public’s interest.
