TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rupiah was trading stronger by 31 points to Rp13,329 per US dollar in Jakarta inter-bank market this morning.
Binaartha Sekuritas analyst Reza Priyambada said today that the rupiah was closed in the positive zone as tensions between the United States and North Korea decrease.
“Reducing tensions have led Asian currencies, including the rupiah, to regain stability and tend to get stronger,” he said.
He added that reduced tensions on the Korean Peninsula would trigger market players to purchase soft currencies that would help prolong the rupiah’s gain.
He said that the rupiah may maintain appreciation against US dollar if supported by Indonesia’s trade surplus in the second quarter of 2017.
Samuel Asset Management economist Lana Soelistianingsih added that the US inflation for July was reported at 1.7 percent (year-on-year), below the previous expectation of 1.8 percent.
