Djarot to Build Wide Sidewalks from Ratu Plaza to Monas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat plans to build wide sidewalks stretching from Ratu Plaza on Jenderal Soedirman Street all the way to the National Monument (Monas). The sidewalk reaches up to 7.7 kilometers.

Djarot said that Transjakarta busses can drop passengers off on designated places along the sidewalk. Jakarta administration, Djarot said, already has Transjakarta busses designed to drop passengers off on sidewalks.

"We have bought TransJakarta busses with lower deck, so the passengers can get off on the sidewalks and it is easy for the busses to drop the passengers off on the sidewalks," Djarot said in Central Jakarta on Saturday evening (12/8).

Djarot envisions that the sidewalks can be used by Jakarta residents to hangout. For that purpose, he said, more lights will be added to provide convenience and security to sit and hang around.

"Healthy, convenient recreational facility, and it can be romantic, too, plus it is free," Djarot added.
