Jakarta Administration Seeks to Collect Taxes from Luxury Car Own

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Regional Tax and Retribution Agency (BPRD) Head Edi Sumantri said that the agency will start collecting taxes from luxury car owners and houses in Jakarta.

A team from BPRD and Police’s Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) will be deployed door-to-door to meet the possible tax dodgers.

“We’ll go door-to-door to meet luxury car owners, because there aren’t many on the public streets, and the tax potential is huge,” said Edi on Friday.

Edi claims that many luxurious car owners with a tax value of over Rp100 million have not paid their taxes. Officially, there are at least 1,700 registered vehicles from a total of 4,000 which taxes have not been paid. 

The joint operation is aimed at optimizing the regional and central tax revenues by checking the vehicle registrations, under Article 68 and Article 70 of law Law No 22/2009. The operation was launched today.
