TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Johannes Marliem, the key witness of electronic ID card or e-KTP graft case, had been confirmed dead by (KPK) spokesperson Febri Diansyah.
"Yes, it is true that Johannes Marliem has passed away, but we have not received the details because he died in the U.S.," Febri said in Jakarta on Friday, August 11.
Marliem is considered a key witness to the mega corruption case since he has records of conversations of e-KTP project designers in the span of four years.
Febri believes that the records can serve as a substantial evidence to investigate the corruption that has caused Rp2.3 trillion of loss.
In Irman and Sugiharto’s indictment, Marliem was mentioned as the provider of automated finger print identification system (AFIS) with the brand L-1 for the project. He was brought in for questioning by KPK investigators in February 2017 in Singapore and in July 2017 in the United States.
Febri explained that the investigation of the e-KTP case will continue and the investigation into the death of Johannes Marliem will be handled the local authorities.
"Regarding the death of Marliem, it is the domain of the local law enforcement," he added.
