Golkar, PDI-P Agree to Form Coalition to Win West Java Elections

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Golkar and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has agreed to form a coalition to win simultaneous elections in 16 regions across West Java. However, the two parties have yet to make any decision on a gubernatorial nominee.
The agreement was revealed by Dedi Mulyadi, chairman of Golkar regional leadership council (DPP) West Java chapter and Tubagus Hasanudin, chief of DPP PDI-P West Java chapter, who met in Bandung yesterday.

“Golkar and the PDI-P share the same vision, mission of building the nation, particularly in West Java, including national vision that should be promoted to every region so that West Java can become a region with a cultural identity that upholds national values,” Dedi said.
Meanwhile, DPP PDI-P West Java chapter chairman Tubagus Hasanudin said that an agreement has been reached thanks to shared ideology between the parties that uphold nationalism and religiosity.

We have the same platform as nationalist and religious parties. We have the same platform on nationality and social justice so we strive to synergize [with each other] in every activity in the context of devoting ourselves to the nation and preserving plurality. Not only in regional elections but also in future activities,” he said.
He added that the parties will be forming a team that will, among other things, nominate individuals for local-head elections in West Java.
