TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The anti-corruption corps to be formed by the National Police is not aimed at taking over the role of Corruption Eradication Commissions (KPK).
“Note that the unit will not KPK’s rival. It will serve as KPK’s backup. KPK will remain the leader [in eradicating corruption],” the National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin said in Jakarta today, August 9.

The idea to form the National Police’s anti-corruption corps was pitched during a work meeting held between the House of Representatives’ Commission II legal affairs and the National Police.
The idea sparked controversies as the public is concerned with overlapping corruption eradication role among the unit and the KPK.
KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah views that the plan poses no threats to the KPK as Article 50 of Law No. 30/2002 governs coordination in investigations. The KPK, Febri said, would be ready to work with the National Police’s Anti-Corruption Corps should the plan be realized in the future.
