TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Michael Essien scored a goal as Persib saw off PS TNI 3-1 in the Liga 1 championship on Saturday at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung District. The former Chelsea player has dedicated the goal to Ricko Andrean.
Ricko Andrean was a fan who died after being beaten up by fellow Persib supporters. He was assaulted while trying to stop his friends from attacking a Persija supporter.
“The goal and the victory are for Ricko,” Essien said.
Essien scored in the 25th minute on an assist from Febri Haryadi. It was the third goal in Liga 1 from the former Real Madrid player.
Two other goals were scored by Raphael Maitimo. The naturalized player said he was pleased with the goal. “I don’t care who scored the goals, I’m pleased tonight. I’m delighted that we won. It’s a result of hard work from all players,” he said.
Maitimo is hopeful that the club will get another positive result away at Arema FC next week. “We go again. We are capable of winning and hopefully in the next match against Arema we can be consistent and achieve a good result,” he said.
Persib are 15th in the Liga 1 with 24 points from 18 matches.
