TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leader of hardliner group Islamic Defender Front (FPI) Rizieq Syihab canceled his plan to return to Indonesia on August 16, 2017. Rizieq’s lawyer Sugito Atmo Prawiro said that his client is currently preparing for haj pilgrimage.
Earlier, Rizieq was scheduled to return to Indonesia to attend the 19th FPI Anniversary.

“FPI members really want Habib [Rizeiq] to attend [the event]. However, he’s currently preparing for haj pilgrimage,” Sugito clarifiedon Sunday.
In response to a question related to Rizieq’s return, Sugito said that Rizieq might arrive in Indonesia after the haj pilgrimage.

Earlier, Rizieq was named as suspect of a smartphone chats containing pornographic materials that allegedly occurred between him and Firza Husen. Firza was also named as a suspect in the same case.
The man was charged with Article 4 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 29 and/or Article 6 in conjunction with Article 32 and/or Article 9 in conjunction with Article 35 of Law No. 44/2008 on pornography. Rizieq Syihab is facing a prison sentence of at least five years.
