TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pamekasan Regent Achmat Syafii is entangled in alleged bribery scheme worth Rp250 million. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (OTT) Wednesday, August 2, at the official residence of Pamekasan public prosecutor in Madura.

The bribery case was revealed after the KPK received a report of alleged irregularities in a road construction project in Dassok Village worth Rp100 million from Village Fund involving Pamekasan Regent.

KPK deputy chief Laode Muhamad Syarif said that the report was filed by a non-governmental organization with Pamekasan Prosecutors’ Office.

Having received the report, the KPK’s Intelligence and Special Crime Unit launched a follow-up investigation by collecting evidence and witness statements. Knowing that the KPK investigation was underway, Dassok Village head Agus Mulyadi complained to Regional Inspectorate Office head Sutjipto Utomo and Regent Achmad Syafii.

Laode revealed that Regent Ahmad asked Sutjipto to circumvent the case. Pamekasan chief public prosecutor Rudi Indra Prasetya accepted the request but he demanded Rp250 million bribe.

“Then, Pamekasan Regent told the Inspector to circumvent the legal process and the chief public prosecutor had said that the case could be dropped by paying Rp250 million despite the fact that the project only cost Rp100 million,” Laode said.

Village head Agus Mulyadi allegedly handed over Rp250 million to prosecutor Rudi Prasetya, who was represented by Inspector Sutjipto, during the KPK sting operation.
