TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) said that members of South Korean girl band SNSD were invited to help promote Asian Games 2018. Bekraf confirmed that it was not to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day.
Bekraf deputy chief Ricky Joseph Pesik said that SNSD or Girls’ Generation has been invited to perform in the lead up to Asian Games that will be held in Jakarta and Palembang in 2018.
“If we must, we can invite all Indonesian stars to meet Korean, Singapore, Philippine, Indian stars. To show our reputation that we are not an awful host of Asian Games that we can attract Asian stars to endorse Asian Games in Indonesia,” Ricky said in Jakarta yesterday, July 31.
Bekraf chief Triawan Munaf is an advisor of the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC).
President Joko Widodo also appointed Triawan as a special envoy to South Korea. “Bekraf chief is also a special envoy to South Korea so he has links. He also helps contact Korean agencies to bring their stars in here,” Ricky said.
Ricky said that the Countdown to Asian Games 1018 will be held on August 18, one day after the Independence Day.
The report of two SNDS members’ arrival in Indonesia has become a talking point among netizens, sparking rumors that the band will perform during the Independence Day celebration.
