Sri Mulyani Praises Customs Office for Foiling Drug Smuggling

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani expressed her appreciation to the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) and the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) for foiling drug smuggling attempt from the Netherlands.
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) was also involved in the operation that successfully stopped Rp600 billion worth of ecstasy pills from entering the country. The collaboration of three agencies, according to Sri Mulyani, was effective.

Sri Mulyani explained that Indonesia’s rapid economic growth combined with the fast-growing population has made Indonesia as the main target for drug syndicates.

Authorities conducted the operation on Friday, July 21, and arrested a suspect with the initial LKT. As many as two large boxes filled with the ecstasy pills were seized.
The suspect revealed that the drugs were shipped by a Netherland-based syndicate, which is controlled by an inmate being detained at the Nusakambangan Prison.
