TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla opened the painting exhibition of the Presidential Palace collection at the National Gallery in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 1.
In his opening speech, Kalla invites the public to go see the palace's various art collections, which he said, are mostly from Soekarno's era.
For Indonesia, the palace's painting collection has an important historical value. "Please enjoy this exhibition," he said.
This is the second time that the Presidential Palace's art collections are shown at the National Gallery. The general public can look at the 48 paintings from August 2 until 30, the gallery is open from 8:00 am every day.
In addition to the exhibition, the gallery also provides painting workshops, discussions, and tours for groups of visitors.
Of the 48 paintings on display, the curators divide them into four themes: the diversity of nature (12 paintings), daily dynamics (11 paintings), traditions and identities (15 paintings), as well as mythology and religion (10 paintings).
For the latter category, there are two famous works of art, the Nyai Roro Kidul painting by Basoeki Abdullah and Raden Saleh's Tiger Drinking painting.
