Gatot Pujo Nugroho Returns to Sukamiskin Prison

TEMPO.COMedan - Former Governor of North Sumatra Gatot Pujo Nugroho, former bribery convict, will re-occupy the cell in Sukamiskin Prison in Bandung. Gatot was the convicted of bribery case worth Rp61.8 billion with the leaders and members of North Sumatra Parliament (DPRD) during the period of 2009-2014 and 2014-2019. Previously, he occupied the prison Class 1A in Tanjung Gusta Medan.

"Gatot will indeed occupy Sukamiskin Prison, but because there is a trial of North Sumatra DPRD members bribery case in Medan Corruption Court, he was placed temporarily in Class I Medan Penitentiary," said Public Relation official at the Law and Human Rights Ministry of North Sumatra, Yosua Ginting, in Medan on Monday, July 31.

He added that Gatot must be sent back to Sukamiskin Prison after the trial in Medan corruption court.

"Gatot returned to Sukamiskin Prison on Thursday, July 27, and [he was] immediately picked up by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Members to the Class IA of Medan, after first completing the admission administration," said Joshua.

He said Gatot was taken by the anti-graft officers and headed directly to Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra, to be flown by plane to Bandung.

On March 9, 2017, the Medan Corruption Court sentenced him to four years in prison. "During his sentence in prisons, Gatot remained in good health," he said. Gatot was being held in Medan Penitentiary for almost a year.

Previously, Gatot Pujo Nugroho was caught in three corruption cases, including the bribery case of the Medan State Administrative (PTUN) Judge, handled by KPK, and sentenced to three years by the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday, March 3, 2016.

Then, the case of social assistance grants and grants of North Sumatra Provincial Government in 2012 and 2013, handled by the Attorney General, where Gatot was sentenced to six years in prison at Medan Corruption Court on Thursday, November 24, 2016. Furthermore, the bribery case of the North Sumatra DPRD leaders and members of period 2009-2014 and 2014-2019 involving a total of Rp61.8 billion.

The panel of judges at the Medan Corruption Court on Thursday, March 9, sentenced Gatot Pujo Nugroho to four years of imprisonment.
