TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Yogyakarta seems to be running out of city landmark buildings that can be used as a screen for video mapping performances. The problem was recognized in the show Jogja Video Mapping Project (JVMP) in the 29th Yogyakarta Arts Festival (FKY) held at Panggung Krapyak Kandang Menjangan on July 28.
"Actually, Jogja has run out of city landmarks. Therefore, the building chosen for JVMP is almost the same as FKY before," said Director of Program FKY 2017, Ishari Sahida, who is often also called Ari Wulu, to Tempo at Stage Krapyak Kandang Menjangan Yogyakarta, Friday, July 28, 2017.
JVMP has participated in FKY since 2013. Some of Yogyakarta's landmark buildings that have been used as JVMP backgrounds include the north side wall of Taman Sari in south square, DIY Parliament Building in Malioboro, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta Building, Jogja National Museum Building (JNM ), and Panggung Krapyak. "Not all buildings can be used for JVMP presentation. There are conditions, "said Ari Wulu.
One of the requirements is the buildings need to have historical value. Panggung Krapyak itself is a building that was used for hunting animals by the kings of Mataram. Formerly, the area was a jungle. The building was built during the time of King of Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton), Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, in 1760.
"This event also serves as a reminder of our society that Jogja has unique buildings with a special history," said Ari Wulu.
The other requirements are the buildings have to meet the artistic elements and have a wide cross section of the walls. Like the box-shaped Panggung Krapyak building; measuring 16.6 meters x 15 meters with a height of 10 meters.
Video mapping is a lighting and projection technique that creates an optical illusion on an object. The light fired towards the object will show a variety of visual images. Visuals not only can be made in different colors and shapes but can be changed with other visual forms of images.
The visual appearance of the image also utilizes and adjusts the various attributes of the building and its surroundings. Such as the doors and windows that are curved at the upper side of Panggung Krapyak and the old tamarind tree that is still sturdy standing next to the building.
