TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wayang Potehi (glove puppet) puppet show, the art of Chinese ancestral heritage will enliven Art Jakarta 2017 with a performance from July 27 to 30.
"Wayang Potehi is a puppet show which originates in China and uses puppets that are as old as 3,000 years old. Wayang Potehi was brought to Indonesia by Chinese immigrants from South China," said Chairman of Art Jakarta 2017, Indriati Wirjanto, in Jakarta.
Most of the Wayang stories that are engaged with the audience the most are the legend in China.

Indriati sees Wayang Potehi not only as entertainment, but it also contains many social values and rituals as they were usually displayed in monasteries.
Potehi puppet show which will be performed by Sanggar Rumah Cinta Wayang on Friday, July 28, entitled 'Hwan Lee Hwa: The Female Swordsman', while on Saturday, a show entitled 'Sun Go Kong' will be performed.
Visitors can not only watch puppet shows, but they can also see how Wayang Potehi puppets are made during the Art Jakarta 2017 event.
