TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bengkulu was once again struck by a 5 Richter scale earthquake that occurred at 02:24 West Indonesia Time. No tsunami warnings were triggered by the undersea quake.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the quake’s epicenter was at 4.52 South Latitude and 101.83 East Longitude, 90 kilometers Southwest of Bengkulu City, at the depth of 59 kilometers.

The effects of the quake could be felt in Kepahiang, Bengkulu, Tais, Seluma, Masmambang, and Pasartalo. The quake shook violently throughout the coast of Bengkulu.
According to BMKG, the earthquake was caused by the subduction of Indo-Australia plate into the Eurasian plate.

“The subduction zones from West Bengkulu up to Lampung have been quite active lately,” said Daryono, head of the earthquake and tsunami early warning information unit at the BMKG, on Friday.
A 5.3 magnitude earthquake followed by two aftershocks previously occurred on July 26 near Enggano Island.
