TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two Sandalwood Horses from Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) were sent to Jakarta by a Hercules plane. The horses are a gift from the citizens of Southwest Sumba  when Jokowi attended the peak event of Festival 1001 Kuda, the Celebration of 1001 Horses and Tenun Ikat, the Ikat Festival.

"It is true, President Jokowi's horses were sent to Jakarta this morning by a Hercules plane," said Markus Dairo Talu, Regent of Southwest Sumba, Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

According to Markus, there are four horses that were transported by a Hercules plane to Jakarta. The two other horses were given to the Air Force Chief of Staff. "All the horses are male and Sandalwood horses, horses of Sumba," said Mark.

The horses for President Jokowi, Markus said, is a form of gratitude for the citizens of Sumba because Jokowi has been to this island. "Gifting a horse to a head of state has become part of the culture of the citizens here," said Mark.

President Jokowi previously attended the celebration of 1001 Horses and the Ikat Festival in Southwest Sumba on 12 July.

At that time, the Regent of Southwest Sumba, Markus Dairo Talu, revealed that the people of his region are ready to welcome the arrival of President Jokowi. "We hope that President Jokowi gets a special impression of Sumba," he said.
