TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government will take harsh actions against lecturers or civil servants who are involved in Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) activities. The government will give them two options following the disbanding of HTI: to quit the organization or remain in it but being discharged as civil servants, Research, Technology and High Education Minister Mohamad Nasir said.
“Those who are involved in the organization must be educated,” he said. The education will be given by campus officials, according to him. “They will be monitored,” Nasir said.

Aside from the regulation in lieu of law no. 2/2017 on Mass Organization, the options are based on the Government Regulation No. 53/2010 on Civil Servant Discipline. The regulation requires civil servants to be loyal to and uphold the Pancasila, 1945 Constitution, the Republic of Indonesia and the government. Nasir is planning to gather university rectors across the country on July 26.
Following the offer, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) rector Panut Mulyono said that the campus will comply with the government regulation. Several UGM lecturers and civil servants are believed to be active members of the HTI.
Yogyakarta Indonesian Art Institute rector Agus Burhan has supported the Ministry’s move.
A survey conducted by the National Armed Forces (TNI) show that HTI was widely supported in campuses, including the University of Indonesia (UI), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and UGM. “Campuses have the potential to host dakwah [religious preachings],” HTI Bandung official Andika Permadi Putra said.
HTI has file an application for a judicial review with the Constitutional Court (MK) of Perpu on Mass Organizations.
