Landslides Hit Ambon, Forcing Victims to Flee to Safer Area

TEMPO.CO, Ambon - Landslides, triggered by incessant heavy rains since Sunday evening, have hit several areas in Ambon City, Maluku Province.
A house located in the Batugon area incurred serious damage due to the landslide, forcing its inhabitants to flee to a safer area on Monday.

Rico Matitaputty, head of the Ambon disaster mitigation office, said landslides hit almost every sub-district in Ambon.
Other areas affected by the disaster include Batu Merah, Sirimau, Batu Gantong in Nusaniwe Sub-district and Naku and Kilang in South Leitimur Sub-district.
The incessant downpour also caused flooding in the Tanah Tinggi and Kadewatan areas in Sirimau Sub-district, among other areas that were hit by landslides.
