Pertamina EP Prepares for First Offshore Drilling

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina EP Asset 4 Poleng Field is preparing for the first offshore drilling since its inception. The subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) operates around eastern Java Sea.

"At present, the ENSCO 67 rig, which will be used for the drilling, is being thoroughly inspected," said Muhammad Baron, Public Relation Manager of PT Pertamina EP in a written statement received yesterday.

Baron said that the company will drill Poleng N2 well or CW-12H well with surface coordinates of X : 708,283.73; Y : 9.259.346,09. The oil wells will be drilled in early August and the operations are expected to last 45 days.

The company predicts that the wells will be 9,000 feet deep, Baron said. The drilling will cost USD 15 million.

Some 700 barrels per day of oil and 1.2 million cubic feet per day of gas are expected to be produce. In addition, the drilling is aimed at creating more hydrocarbon absorption points at CW and DW areas.

Didik Susilo, Asset 4 General Manager of PT Pertamina EP, said that Asset 4 is one of the most complete assets. Aside from having oil fields, the asset also has three gas production centers: CPP Gundih, CPP Donggi and CPP Matindok.

Didik added that Asset 4 is home to onshore and offshore fields, such as those in Poleng Field. Poleng Field has been managed by PT Pertamina EP for 4 years. "After around 4 years with a decent production level, we are preparing a pretty bold move to carry out drilling", he said.
