Flood in Central Kalimantan Inundates 3 Districts

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flood in Katingan due to rain and overflow of Katingan River caused three districts in Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan to inundate on Saturday (15/7). The two-meter flood has made the residents to displace to safer grounds.

"Heavy rain pouring for almost a week has caused the water in the upstream to overflow and resulted in flood. And the flood hit last night (Saturday at dawn)," a resident of Central Katingan district Hardy Rampay said on Saturday (15/7).

Hardy said that the three districts inundated include Central Katingan, Hulu, and Marikit. The most severe flood hit Marikit district inundated with 2 meter flood. He explained that hundreds of residents have displaced to safer places since they are worried that the flood will get worse.

"Based on our experience, this condition of severe flood in Katingan is estimated to go on from three to four days ahead," Hardy Rampay, who is also the head of Manpower and Transmigration Agency, added.
