Arief Hidayat Re-elected Constitutional Court Chief Justice

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arief Hidayat has been re-elected Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) for 2017-2020 term at a plenary meeting of the MK leadership.
“[Based on] consensus, I have been entrusted to continue my leadership,” Arief told a press conference today at the Constitutional Court building in Jakarta.

Arief said that he expects Indonesian people to help monitor his performance as the Chief Justice.
The election process of the MK Chief Justice was started at 8 am and ended at 11:15 am Jakarta time.

The process was held in a closed session which was attended by nine constitutional court judges. The decision was made based on consensus.
Law No. 8/2011 on Amendment to Law No. 24/2003 on the Constitutional Court holds that the MK Chief Justice’s term of service is two years and six months (2017-2020).
Arief Hidayat, born in Semarang on February 3, 1956, served as the Constitutional Court Chief Justice for 2015-2017 term and would enter retirement age in April 2018.
