TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Wiranto, assured that the new regulation on mass-organizations will not impede the public’s freedom of expression to form new mass organizations.
Wiranto argues that the new government regulation No 2 (2017) in lieu of law (Perppu) No 17 (2013) on mass-organizations was formed to counter a potential threat originating from within an organization.

“The freedom to form new organizations is still widely permissible,” said Wiranto on Wednesday, July 12. He backed his claims by revealing that Indonesia currently still has 334,039 active mass organizations.
The former Indonesian National armed Forces General urged every element of society to accept the new regulation in a calm and wise manner. Wiranto also assured that the Perppu is considered legal in solving urgent legal matters.

Wiranto mentioned that he doesn’t want the public to view the new regulation as the government’s attempt to discredit an Islamic mass organization.
