Police Question Witnesses over Knife Attack against IT Expert

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Jakarta Police is currently investigating the vicious knife attack against Hermansyah, an IT expert from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Police have obtained several evidences and witness testimonies. 

The incident took place at the Jagorawi toll road on Sunday morning, July 9. when Hermansyah drove his car with his wife on their way home to Depok. At the sixth kilometer of the Jagorawi toll road, a car crashed into the side of their white Toyota Avanza and immediately drove-off.

Instinctively, Hermansyah chose to pursue the car and urged the driver to stop. After he caught up with the car, he asked the driver of the other car to step out of his vehicle. Unfortunately, five people came out of the car and immediately attacked Hermansyah with one of the suspects armed with a knife.

“The attack may not have occurred if the victim decided not to pursue the suspects,” East Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Andry Wibowo told Tempo today. Andy also dismissed a report saying Hermansyah’s brother was driving in another car. “The suspects were on two different cars.”

Hermansyah is currently being treated at Hermina hospital in Depok. Hermansyah was interviewed at a local TV show called Indonesia Lawyer Club as an expert speaker discussing ‘steamy’ Whatsapp chat case allegedly occurred between Islamic Defender Front leader Rizieq Syihab and Firza Husein.
