TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) director Enny Sri Hartati urged government to be transparent in reviewing the plan to relocate state capital. She believes that every region has equal opportunity to serve as the capital city, including Jakarta.
"In capital city best practices, not all integrated cities as business centers and centers of government are chaotic, take Tokyo, London and Paris as examples. However, some countries do separate the functions," Enny said in Central Jakarta on Saturday (8/7).

To tell the truth, Enny believes, problems in Jakarta can still be managed and resolved. In terms of traffic jam, Tokyo in 1970 also had the same problem with Jakarta, she said.
"But they came up with smart policy, constructing subways and everything, traffic jam was resolved," she continued.
Relating to relocating economic center outside of Jakarta, Enny said that the government has local autonomy policy; therefore, economy center can be delegated to another region.

"For flood issues, well, there are tools to solve this problem," she said.
Nevertheless, Enny admitted that it is not a big deal when the comprehensive review results in the relocation of state capital as the best solution.
"But if the result indicates that Jakarta is the best choice, then just resolve problems in Jakarta," Enny said, regarding the capital city relocation plan.
