Pressure Cooker Bomb Explodes in Bandung

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - A pressure cooker bomb exploded in a rented house in Kubang Bereum Street, Sekejati, Buah Batu, Bandung, in the afternoon around 3:30 pm. The bomb was about to be detonated in Cafe Bali on Braga street next Friday.

West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said that the house belongs to Epon rented out to the bomber named Agus Wiguna (22). He said that the explosion was accidental.

“That’s right, it exploded by accident,” Yusri confirmed on Saturday (8/7).

Ridwan, one of the witnesses, said that he heard an explosion with fire from next door while he was sitting down in his room. He got panicked and called the eighbors. Meanwhile, Adin, another witness, went to pick up Agus who was selling fried meatballs in Cidurian area.

“He was then taken to the scene,” Yusri said.

Yusri explained that the pressure cooker bomb contained 7 cm nails and it was put in in his backpack to be detonated in Cafe Bali next Friday.

“He planned to put the bomb in a trash can near the cafe using a thread as the detonator. The thred will be laid out and if someone trips over the thread, it will explode,” Yusri added.

The pressure cooker bomb suspect, Agus, is currently held under investigation in Bandung police station.
