TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian revealed that the number of road accidents in West Java until the third day after the Eid Holiday dropped by 47 percent when compared to the previous year.
“Road accidents during the homecoming season in West Java dropped by 47 percent compared to the same period last year,” said Tito Karnavian on Friday, June 30.
Tito added that the number of life threatening road accidents in 2017 have decreased by 68 percent compared to the previous year.
“The number of deaths decreased by 68 percent, severe injuries fell by 20 percent, and minor injuries dropped by 52 percent. Overall, the number of accidents dropped significantly compared to last year,” Tito explained.
West Java Police spokesperson Yusri Yunus said that there were 52 cases of traffic accidents during the homecoming season between June 19 and June 29, 2017, decreasing from 137 cases in the 2016 homecoming season. There were nine deaths caused by road accidents during the same period, significantly dropping from 42 in 2016.
