TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara has his say about cyber Petya ransomware attack that hits countries around the world. The Minister said on his Twitter account yesterday that the virus works like wannacry ransomware that struck across the globe on May 13.
Rudiantara said that the Indonesian government continues to monitor and mitigate the spread of the virus in the country.

He added that the agency under the auspices of the Informatics Ministry called Id-SIRTI has warned about the cyber attack. The agency is also tasked with handling incidents of such attack.
Earlier, Chief Research Officer at F-Secure, Mikko Hypponen, confirms a global cyber attack named Petya ransomware. The ransomware is spreading rapidly with the help of Windows SMBv1 vulnerability.
"Petya uses the NSA Eternalblue exploit but also spreads in internal networks with WMIC and PSEXEC. That's why patched systems can get hit." Mikko Hypponen was quoted as saying by The Hacker News yesterday.

Mikko explained that Petya ransomware is as strong as Wannacry, the ransomware that hit over 300,000 systems and servers across the globe in the space of 72 hours last month.
He said that Petya works very differently from any other ransomware, adding that it does not encrypt files on a targeted system.
Instead, Petya reboots computers and encrypts the hard drive’s master hard table (MFT) and rendering the master boot record (MBR) inoperable. The ransomware can fully access all information about files, sizes and locations on computer disk.
Reports said that Petya ransomware attacked the Russian oil giant Rosneft, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Oschabank and other global companies.
