LRT Funding Scheme Not Ready

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The funding scheme for the Jakarta - Bogor - Depok - Bekasi light rail transit (LRT) system project has not been completed yet. Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI), the company assigned to calculate the funding scheme, said that this is because they do not have all of the required data to make the calculation.

SMI president director Emma Sri Martini said that all parties involved are still "in process" and that the Transportation Ministry and its consultants are still verifying the required amount of capital expenditure.

"We have to wait for the process - consolidate first, verify, synchronize, and integrate infrastructure and facilities. We have to do those things first," she said in Jakarta Tuesday, June 20.

After those processes are completed, Emma said, they will have the capex and (operational expenditure) figures to make financial models from. From the calculation, the amount of subsidy can be determined.

"With that assumption, we will know about the ridership quantity, how much subsidy should be allocated. The subsidy mechanism is being coordinated with the Finance Ministry," she said.

The government has assigned SMI to calculate the light rail transit financing scheme (LRT).

The Transportation Ministry's director general of railways Prasetyo Boeditjahjono last month said that the calculation is targeted for completion in July or August 2017.
