TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police has Investigation into Rizieq`s Case Postponed postponed an investigation into the steamy chat case entangling Islamic Leaders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Syihab. Police claimed that the move was taken in order to focus on the ‘Ramadniya Operation’ in the eve of Eid al-Fitr.
“There are much more important things to do, such as the Ramadnya humanitarian operation. The [case] is currently on hold,” said Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Mochammad Iriawan on Monday, June 19.
The Ramadnya Operation will be launched throughout Indonesia focusing on securing routes used during the 2017 Ramadan homecoming season.
Although the case is being postponed, a number of steps have been taken by the police including compiling witness testimonies throughout the last few weeks. Firza Husein and Fatimah Husein Assegaf were the latest witnesses questioned by police.
Rizieq Syihab has not yet been questioned by the Jakarta Police in the cource of investigation since Rizieq refused to attend two police summonses.
Rizieq Syihab refused to return to Indonesia to face the case, which he dubs as an attempt to criminalize ulemas by the authorities.
