TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, distributed thousands of land titles or land certificates during his official State Visit to Central Java. The land title distribution is included in the government’s national strategic program and agrarian reform.
During the visit to Banyumas District, Jokowi handed over 2,187 land title certificates to thousands of local residents. He admits that the program was accelerated to prevent land disputes.
“No one can claim [the supposed land] when someone already owns it,” said President Jokowi on Friday, June 16, 2017.
President Jokowi reminded the newly appointed owners to use the certificates wisely. President Jokowi also called on residents to use the certificates as loan collateral after a thorough consideration.
President Jokowi also handed over 2,550 land title certificates to residents of Cilacap, Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, and Wonosobo.
President Jokowi revealed that there are 126 million plots of lands across Indonesia that must be legalized. However, there are only 46 million with land title certificates.
The Indonesian Government plans to issue five million land title certificates by the end of this year. President Jokowi expects to issue seven million land certificates by 2018 and 9 million others by 2019.
