Toll Road Operators Prepare One Billion Rupiah Worth of Change

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - In the wake of the Ramadan homecoming tradition, toll road operators across Indonesia are urged to prepare a large sum of change for their toll booths. However, toll road operators find it difficult to provide at least one billion rupiahs worth of change just for one toll gate each day. 

“The amount is usually one billion rupiahs each day. It’s for change,” said Jasamarga toll road branch manager Setia Budi on Thursday, June 15, 2017. The change mostly consists of Rp100, Rp200, and Rp500.

Budi revealed that obtaining such amount of change was quite difficult. He usually mobilizes employees to shops, traditional market sellers, gas station cash registers, and other alternative sources.

Such difficulties are the reason why Budi urges toll road users to switch from traditional money to electronic transactions. Jasa Marga offers discounts of up to 20 percent for the use of electronic transactions in every Jasa Marga toll road during the homecoming season.
