Police Fail to Secure Red Notice for FPI Rizieq Syihab

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have failed to secure a red notice from the National Center Bureau Interpol Indonesia for the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Syihab. Interpol reasoned that Rizieq’s case does not fall under red notice category.

Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. M. Iriawan said that the failure to secure a red notice will not affect the investigators in their attempt to bring home Rizieq. The police can still find other ways to investigate the FPI leader in a pornography case, such as by seeking a blue notice or enquiry notice. “Notices will be sent to other countries particularly those having bilateral relations [with Indonesia] that the person in question has a particular record,” Iriawan said yesterday in Jakarta.

Moreover, the police may also team up with their Saudi Arabian counterparts to bring back Rizieq Syihab, Iriawan said.

Jakarta Metro Police will still have to coordinate with the National Police, according to Iriawan. “I have a boss. I will discuss it,” he said.

Rizieq Syihab is being investigated in a pornography case in relation to explicit WhatsApp chats with activist Firza Husein which went viral a while back. The latter has been named as a suspect, whereas the former has never attended police questioning. Reports said that Rizieq is currently in Saudi Arabia.
