TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A grenade was found at the Pecenongan Police Station in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. The grenade was wrapped in a plastic bag and still active.
Jakarta Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Asep Guntur Rahayu said that the grenade was found by a police officer, Rasjo, when he came to the station.
“Mr. Rasjo took the plastic bag and kept it in a desk drawer,” Asep said today.
Not long after, Pecenongan Police Station chief 1st Insp. Pande K. Widiasa arrived at the scene. Rasjo told Pande about the plastic bag. Pande was surprised when he found that the content of the plastic bag was a hand grenade. They later took the grenade outside.
Pande contacted Gambir Police Precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ida Ketut, who escalated the report to the Jakarta Police’s Bomb Squad.
“It’s explosive. So, the Bomb Squad is the competent unit to handle it,” Asep explained. Police are still investigating the origin of the hand grenade. Whether the grenade is related to a terror act or not is still unknown.
