TEMPO.CO, JakartaBuni Yani, who spread the clip of Ahoks speech in Thousand Islands, has taken part in his inaugural trial at Bandung District Court on Tuesday. He is charged with two Articles.

Buni is considered to have edited the video into a short clip and shared it through his Facebook account. The footage has caused Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok to be publicly persecuted.

Public prosecutor Andi Muh Taufik charged Buni Yani with Article 32 (1) of Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions based on his attempt in spreading the edited video of Ahok’s speech.

Buni only posted the moment where Ahok mentioned the Al-Maidah 51 verse of the Quran. It only showed around the 25th minute duration of the video, whereas the actual recording lasted for one hour and forty minutes.

“The defendant reduced the duration of the video recording down to 30 seconds,” said Andi.

Other than that, Buni Yani is also charged for creating an incomplete transcription of Ahok’s speech where he excluded one word during the time Ahok mentioned the Quran verse.

In his second indictment, Buni Yani is charged with Article 28 (2) on Information and Electronic Transaction where he spread the information that was aimed to spark hatred among the people who watch the video.

“The defendant’s actions caused Ahok to be hated by the public and sparked Islamic groups to automatically hate Ahok,” Andi said.

Buni Yani was accompanied by 10 lawyers and there were also hundreds of people from the Islamic Movement Alliance of West Java, chanting to support him.
