TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said that House of Representatives’ (DPR) right of inquiry against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) cannot be interfered by the government. Yasonna added that he fully trusts the mechanism to House’s special committee (Pansus).
“It’s House’s affair,” Yasonna said today.
Yasonna added that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi would not meddle with the House’s right of inquiry against the KPK, considering that it is a legislative matter and that every institution has their own appointed authority regulated by the constitution.
In response to a public opinion stating that the inquiry is the House’s move to weaken the KPK, Yasonna argues that the government has no authority to interfere the House.
The KPK Inquiry special committee held its inaugural meeting session, with Agun Gunandjar Sudarsa acting as the head of the special committee. Agun claims that the committee has already set its own agenda and mechanism regarding the intent of the investigation, the object of the investigation, and the approach to the problem.
Hasto Kristiyanto, secretary of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), said that the House is not deliberately weakening KPK. Hasto added that it was a reasonable thing to do considering the current situation.
