TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has urged Qatar to uphold its commitment to fight terrorism, despite several Arab nations severing their diplomatic ties with the country on Monday, the Secretariat General said on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, some countries, including Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, had claimed that Qatar has supported several terrorist groups, including IS and Al Qaeda.

Hence, the Arab nations halted their diplomatic relations with Qatar as well as closed all borders and its areas with the country.

Following the nations measures, OIC will continue to oversee the current situation in the Arabian Peninsula, the Secretariat General said in a written statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta.

It further asked all OIC members, including Qatar, to continue to comply with the groups principles such as respecting sovereignty, independence, and integrity of each nation.

Indonesian government also deplored the deepening rift in the Arabian Gulf, the Foreign Affairs Ministrys spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir noted on Monday.

The government called on every country to respect each others sovereignty, as well as continue to fight against terrorism.

"Indonesia asks every party to unite in fighting radicalism as well as maintaining the stability and security both in the region and the world," Nasir remarked.

Meanwhile, Qatars Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday expressed its regret over the decision of the Arab nations.

"The ministry expressed its deep regret and surprise at the decisions by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Bahrain to close their borders and airspace and sever diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar, bearing in mind that these measures are unjustified and based on false claims and assumptions," it said in its written statement posted online on Monday.

The ministry further explained that Qatar had been an active member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and would continue to commit to its charter.

"Qatar respects the sovereignty of other nations and does not interfere in their internal affairs, and it has fulfilled its role in fighting terrorism and extremism," the ministry remarked.
