TEMPO.CO, Kendari - South Sulawesi Police have arrested a man with the initial of NS, 28, for insulting the National Police Chief Tito Karnavian on Facebook.
South Sulawesi Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Sunarto said that NS was nabbed by police cyber patrol team over his Facebook post on January 23. NS posted a picture of the police chief alongside a K9 police dog with an insulting caption.
Sunarto said that the police also found hate speech and incitement to violence on other NS’ Facebook posts. The father-of-one could face 6 year prison sentence and Rp1 billion fine under the Information and Electronic Transactions Law.
Investigators have questioned three witnesses, including a linguist from South Sulawesi Linguistic Office.
NS said he started posting hate speech after joining a Facebook group, from which he gets his materials.
A similar case happened recently in Bangkalan, East Java. A mechanic was apprehended for insulting the police chief on his Instagram account.
