TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is currently drafting Presidential Regulation to regulate the mini market business that flourishes dramatically.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said that the regulation intended to protect traditional markets and Small Medium Enterprises (UKM) will be issued this year.
"This Perpres (Presidential Regulation) is from Trade Ministry. They are trying to finish the draft. Afterward, we still discuss it here and then we will propose it (to the President)," Darmin Nasution said in Central Jakarta on Friday, June 2.
Darmin continued that one of the regulations implemented concerns about the percentage of ownership between the owner and the investor. The ratio of the ownership will be regulated, he said.
Based on the ministry data, 65 percent of mini markets in Indonesia are still owned by the owner, while the remaining 35 percent are owned by individuals or groups who purchase franchise rights to the owner of the mini markets.
In addition to regulate the ownership of mini markets, Darmin explained, this Perpres will determine the zones of mini markets. It means, he added, there will be rules stipulating that it can only be built on certain road classes.
Another regulation, Darmin said, will stipulate the products sold in the mini markets. He added that the mini markets’ own brands cannot dominate the line of products.
