TEMPO.CO, Padang - Padang regional secretary Asnel has asked restaurant managers to put “Non-Muslim Only” label in front of their restaurants during Ramadan.
“An agreement has been reached with restaurant managers that during the days of the fasting month restaurants may not open except for recommended ones and those with special signs,” Asnel said in Padang today.
He said that most of the restaurants are located in Padang’s Chinatown, Pondok, and its surroundings.
According to Asnel, restaurants and diners outside Pondok may not open except after breaking the fast until suhoor (pre-dawn meal). The policy has been issued to respect both Muslims who are fasting and non-Muslims and foreign tourists who are not fasting. “Vendors are committed and expected not to violate [the agreement],” he added.
Aside from restaurant management, an agreement has also been reached to shut down night clubs during Ramadan. “We have met the owners and some have agreed to shut down their stalls,” he said.
