TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Women Empowerment Forum stated that 65 percent of Indonesian children are no longer aware of traditional games due to the impact of technology advances.
"This situation emerges because of the impact of massive technology advances and the lack of parental role in educating their children," head of Indonesia Women Empowerment Forum Utari Soekanto said in Bekasi on Saturday (20/5).
While attending a parenting seminar in Graha Hartika, Bekasi, Utari reintroduced traditional games to children in order to enhance their creativity and energy as they played the games. These traditional games are egrang (stilts), congklak (shell game), sondah (hopscotch), kelereng (marbles), petak umpat (hide and seek), galasin (children’s team game) and others.
"I want them to be like children in the old days when they did not know technology or gadgets. Children under 10 years old barely know traditional games," she added.
