Sri Mulyani : Govt Wants Poverty Rate Down to 9%

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the government is targeting to lower Indonesia's poverty rate to nine or 10 percent by 2018, as would be set in the year's macroeconomic assumptions. Sri said the government also aims to lower the unemployment rate to 5.1-5.4 percent.

"We hope to reduce inequality as reflected by a Gini ratio of 0.38," the minister said in Jakarta, Friday, May 19.

Sri Mulyani said that the people's welfare level will also increase as reflected in Indonesia's human development index (IPM) of 71.38.

The government, said Sri Mulyani, will continue with efforts to alleviate poverty. Today, there are still some 27 million Indonesians living below the poverty line.

Meanwhile, the government is targeting an economic growth of 5.4 to 6.1 percent in in 2018. The inflation rate is targeted to be between 3.5 and 1 percent.
