TEMPO.CO, Ternate - Muslims and Christians of Tomori Village in North Maluku worked side by side to clean up the neighborhood to welcome the Holy month of Ramadan.
“In welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, Military District Command 1509-01/Bacan with residents of Tomori Village that consists of Muslims and Christians, are working together to clean up the neighborhood,” religious leader Anas Olabahim said in Ternate on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
The residents clean local mosques and churches, cemetery, drainage system, and the neighborhood. The camaraderie between the two religious communities during the activity was very notable. They helped each other as a community based on a strong brotherhood.
Anas explained that this activity is a routine agenda in welcoming any Islamic or Christian holiday.
“The 1999 conflict is in the past. Let the gloomy history be a lesson for us to prevent it from recurring,” Anas said.
