TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rhoma Irama, chairman of the Safe and Peaceful Islam Party or Idaman, said he has no intention to run for president in 2019. But if his party urges him to, the dangdut singer said, he will not refuse.
"If the party wants me to perform, I can't refuse," he said Tuesday, May 16.
The Idaman Party today held a national coordination conference with hundreds of its cadres. The conference was held in the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in East Jakarta. The party chairman also took the stage to sing a few songs with members of his dangdut band, Soneta Grup.
Rhoma said the conference is held in preparation to meet the Elections Committee's (KPU) requirement to join the 2019 elections. He asserted that the party will run for legislative elections if it passes KPU's verification stage in October.
Rhoma wants his party to have a positive image of Islam; Islam that is against all forms of terrorism.
"Idaman Party's mission is to become an agent to unify the nation. Love Indonesia," he said.
