TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara yesterday held a press conference warning the public who used Windows-based computers over WannaCry ransomware.
Has the government anticipated the virus attack?
The Informatics Ministry has created Indonesian cyber security map that prioritizes three critical sectors, namely banking, transportation and energy. It will also be developed in other sectors. Engineers around the globe have tried to address the problem. But they have not found its antivirus. We are all seeking a solution.
What should people do?
People should ensure that their computer is not connected to the internet before turning it on. Then, back up your data to another computer that does not use Windows operating system. After working online, do not click suspicious emails and spams.
To what extent does Wannacry ransomware affect Indonesia?
The spread has been massive, not only in Indonesia but also around the world. It attacks computers or servers, but only those using old version of Windows operating system, 2008 versions and its previous ones. Those who use more advanced operating systems or Mac will not get affected.
Does the virus attack certain sectors?
I don’t know if it attacks certain sectors, but in other countries it attacked health care services, such as in England and Scotland. Indonesia was only attacked on Saturday, a little late, indeed, because other countries had been attacked since Thursday.
Have government offices been attacked?
It turns out that it not only attacks business sector.
However, we believe that we can minimize its risk by disseminating information about the preventive measures to state ministries and agencies starting Monday.
Aside from hospitals, have others reported a similar attack?
Only Dharmais and Harapan Kita hospitals have reported the attack. They have had troubles in accessing encrypted data.
