TEMPO.CO, Montreal - Indonesian Ambassador to Canada Teuku Faizasyah said that Indonesia has a huge potential in the renewable energy sector and is ready to work with Canada to develop the sector.

Earlier on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, Teuku Faizasyah spoke in an Investment Forum entitled “Opportunities in the Renewable Energy Sector in Indonesia", held in Montreal, Canada. The event was hosted by the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa, in collaboration with the Canadian Ministry of Economic, Science and Innovation.

Attending the forum were potential investors and CEOs of companies operating in the renewable energy sector in Montreal. The forum featured two speakers, namely Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor and Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) deputy head Himawan Hariyoga.

Panelists of the forum include Dadan Kusdiana, secretary of the New and Renewable Energy Directorate General at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Bank Indonesia’s New York representative office head Erwin Haryono, Manulife Quebec CEO Richard Payette and Export Development Canada (EDC) analyst Mark Hunt.

According to Teuku Faizasyah, Montreal is the second largest city in Canada after Toronto, which has become the commercial center in the Quebec Province.

“Therefore, [Montreal] has an advanced and efficient renewable energy technology,” Teuku Faizasyah said in a press release received by Tempo yesterday, May 12.

BI Deputy Governor Sugeng said that his institution strictly maintains the country’s monetary stability in a bid to support the investment climate. BKPM deputy head added that President Jokowi has strived to simplify permit applications and provide various facilities for foreign investments.

Dadan Kusdiana with the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry explained Indonesia's urgent demands on energy in the next eight years. According to Dadan, renewable energy’s contribution to the national energy mix is expected to increase to 23 percent from currently 10 percent.

“Indonesia provides the best facilities for investments in the energy sector in order to secure energy supplies and to achieve favorable economic growth,” Dadan said.

Teuku Faizasyah revealed that the Indonesian Embassy has scheduled another meeting with participants of the Investment Forum. Currently, the embassy is arranging a plan for CEO from Quebec to visit Indonesia.
